SOAR! Announces 2013 New York Dinner Award Honorees

SOAR! is pleased to announce our two award honorees for our 2013 New York Award Dinner benefiting the aged and infirm religious to be held Wednesday, October 2, 2013.

2013 Elizabeth Ann Seton Honoree: Sister Patricia Codey, S.C.

Sister Patricia Codey, S.C. is President of Catholic HealthCare Partnership of New Jersey. The statewide coalition was established by the leaders of Catholic health care to advance the healing mission of Jesus Christ through the health ministry of the Catholic Church. As president, Sister Patricia brings her experience as a woman religious and civil lawyer to promote Catholic healthcare with a focus on the Gospel. The Gospel recalls the message of Jesus who healed the downhearted and gathered all to sit at the table to share what is most important.

 

Sister Joan Donovan2013 Father Victor Yanitelli, SJ Award Honoree: Sister Joan Donovan, OP

Sister Joan Donovan, OP, a member of the Dominican Sisters of Amityville and director of the Hurricane Sandy Project with the 2013 Father Victor Yanitelli, SJ Award. Organized by Sister Joan, a retired sister, the Hurricane Sandy Project and its predecessor, the Hurricane Katrina Project, help to rebuild lives and communities hard hit by hurricanes. With the help of a group of volunteer sisters, Sister Joan goes door-to-door assessing basic needs and offering monetary, emotional and physical support, as well as compassionate care. Sister Joan’s efforts provide the tools hurricane victims need to overcome feelings of hopelessness and despair and enable lives to be rebuilt.
