Organized by Sister Joan, a retired sister, the Hurricane Sandy Project and its predecessor, the Hurricane Katrina Project, help to rebuild lives and communities hard hit by hurricanes. With the help of a group of volunteer sisters, Sister Joan goes door-to-door assessing basic needs and offering monetary, emotional and physical support, as well as compassionate care. Sister Joan’s efforts provide the tools hurricane victims need to overcome feelings of hopelessness and despair and enable lives to be rebuilt.
