Sister Clare Carr, OSB
SOAR! recently had the opportunity to meet Sister Clare and interview her via Zoom.
Sister Clare entered the order in 1974. She says, “God led me here. I did not want to be a nun. I had been engaged. But my love for God drew me to become a Benedictine Sister.”
Sister Clare worked with high school students and served as a Director of Religious Education where she led the RCIA program, and was able to participate in the conversion in the life of others.
She described one powerful experience when she served as a Director of Religious Education. She and the Youth Director would conduct retreats with the teenagers. “The youth came from all backgrounds, though were mostly Hispanic. On this retreat one of the young people who participated had just lost her father. It meant so much to her and her family that she was invited to attend. It was a healing time for her.”
About 25 years ago, she received her counseling degree and has been a psychotherapist and spiritual director ever since. Sister Clare said, “There is a courage and vulnerability of people who come to therapy during emotionally challenging times. It is holy.”
When asked to share a word of wisdom, Sister Clare encourages us to be “Kinder, more loving and accepting of all.”
The Sisters at Benet Hill Monastery received a grant to purchase an induction oven and lift recliner chairs. They are grateful for how the SOAR! grants make a difference in their lives.
