Sister Judith Frederick, SND

Sister Teresa McShane, DMJ (1)

Sister Judith Frederick grew up with Sisters of Notre Dame in her school and parish in Fremont, OH, so when she heard the call, there was no question where she belonged. She entered Sisters of Notre Dame in Toledo, OH after high school. “I was familiar with the Sisters of Notre Dame and admired the Sisters I knew,” she said.

Sister Judith taught all grade levels at schools, as she says, “All over the place.” “I loved my ministries. I felt a sense of joy knowing that I was helping young people learn about themselves, grow closer to their families and foster their relationship with God.” Because Sister Judith taught in numerous schools throughout her teaching career, moving from one school to another was difficult sometimes. She explains, “It was challenging when I was assigned to a new place. Leaving the people I cared about was always hard and walking into the unknown was a little scary. But once I’d settle in at the new location, I quickly realized that, yes, this is where I am supposed to be at this time. God has a way of putting us where He needs us.”

Sister Judith recently faced the same reluctance about moving as she relocated her residence to the Sisters of Notre Dame Assisted Living Center in Whitehouse, OH. But as usual, Sister Judith adapted quickly and is thriving in her new home where she loves being able to go outside and enjoy the beauty of the grounds.

Sister Judith and Sister Camilla enjoy scooters provided by a SOAR! grant.

Previously restricted to short trips outside because of some mobility issues, Sister Judith can now fully explore the beautiful Whitehouse campus with a scooter provided through the SOAR! grant. “The scooters are a gift!” she exclaimed. “A ride on the scooter allows us to leisurely and safely go around our whole property. Thanks so much! God bless you for your generosity through the grant we received!”

Sister Judith willingly shares her own experience with the fear of uncertainty and reminds others, “Don’t be afraid to try new things. Be willing to learn, to make mistakes and to ask for help. And remember God will put you where you need to be at the time you need to be there.”
