Sister Joan has worked in development for 23 years, first as president of an inner-city girls’ high school and then as founder and director of a mission advancement office for her community of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary at Immaculata, PA.

As a member of the National Catholic Development Conference, Sister Joan was introduced to and was inspired by the ministry of SOAR! Now, she feels privileged to be sharing with SOAR!’s benefactors the exciting, meaningful ways in which donors enrich and improve the lives of retired and infirm religious women and men throughout the United States.

Sister Joan earned an MA in counseling from Santa Clara University, taught 7th and 8th grades in four states and served as a guidance director in high school.  During her years in the development ministry, she conducted a successful endowment campaign to provide scholarships and grants to high school students; she also directed a major capital campaign to help finance the construction of additions to her congregation’s retirement home.  To relax, Sister Joan likes to read, walk, visit friends, listen to books on tape and create artificial flower arrangements.
