Our Story
The story of SOAR! begins with a question. In the mid-1980s, Wall Street Journal reporter John Fialka found himself wondering what had become of the Sisters who had taught him in Catholic school...
The Impact of Religious
"I have had deep respect and affection for our Catholic religious throughout my life. I was blessed to be educated in Catholic grade school and high school by the Sisters of Charity..."
Words from Our Donors
A Legacy of Prayer
As part of our 40th anniversary, we invite you to spend a few moments in prayer with us.
Throughout our anniversary celebration, the prayers below will be updated regularly, featuring reflections lovingly shared over the years by aging Catholic Sisters, Brothers, and Priests.
Prayer by Karl Rahner, SJ
Make my heart like that of Your Son. Make it as great and rich in love as His, so that my brothers—or at least one of them, sometime in my life—can enter through this door and there learn that You love him. God of Our Lord Jesus Christ, let me find you in His Heart.
To Pray
To pray I journey within the center.
Center of self – of you – of the universe.
And there, deep within the stillness
I am embraced by my God.
St. Francis’ Prayer Before the Crucifix
Most high, glorious God,
enlighten the darkness of my heart
and give me Lord, a correct faith,
a certain hope, a perfect charity,
sense and knowledge, so that
I may carry out your hold
and true command. Amen
Day By Day
My often-repeated prayer is taken from the show Godspell. Sometimes I pray it, sometimes I sing it: “DAY BY DAY, DAY BY DAY, O dear Lord, three things I pray, to see Thee more clearly, love Thee more dearly, follow Thee more nearly, DAY BY DAY.”
The Memorare
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known
that anyone who fled to thy protection,
implored thy help,
or sought thy intercession,
was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence
I fly unto thee,
O Virgin of virgins, my Mother.
To thee do I come,
before thee I stand,
sinful and sorrowful.
O Mother of the Word Incarnate,
despise not my petitions,
but in thy mercy hear and answer me.
Amen.
Take My Hand, O Blessed Mother
Take my hand, O Blessed Mother. Hold me firmly lest I fall.
If I’m nervous while I’m walking, quickly heed my humble call.
Guide me over every crossing, watch me when I’m on the stairs.
Let me know that you’re beside me, listen to my fervent prayers.
Bring me to my destination. Keep me safe along the way.
Bless my every undertaking, and my duties for the day.
When the evening draws upon me, I do not fear to be alone.
Once again, O Blessed Mother, take my hand and lead me home. Amen
