Sister Loretta Guevarra, SA

loretta 1 - 001

Sister Loretta Guevarra, SA, age 93, celebrated her Diamond Jubilee at Graymoor in Garrison, New York on June 17, 2017. She was born into a Mexican-American family in Los Angeles, California with eight siblings; she entered the congregation in 1942; professed her first vows in 1944.

Throughout her missionary years, Sister Loretta was primarily in parish ministry and always focused on Christian unity. Sister ministered for two years at St. Cecilia’s Mission in New York City (1944-46); 11 years in Utah (Bingham Canyon & Dragerton). Then moving on to Oregon (Newport) and California (Bakersfield) before going forth for 31 years as a missionary in Brazil (Jatai, Rio Verde, Goiania and San Paolo). Sister returned to the United States in 1994 and then spent the next 21 years serving the People of God in California (San Ardo, San Miguel and San Juan Bautista).

Since May 2016 Sister resides at Graymoor and continues her ministry of faith formation to former parishioners in California via Skype. She is so grateful for a recent SOAR! grant which provides WiFi throughout the Lurana Health Care Residence and Assisted Living Wing of our facility. Sister Loretta continues to thrive as she stays connected to so many people through use of her iPad and laptop computer.

Quick-minded and full of joy in God, Sister Loretta is a wonderful conversationalist. One can see her riding her red electric scooter around the grounds of Graymoor getting her fresh air for the day. At age 93 she continues to energize all of us through her missionary spirit!
